Difficulty:

Novice

Ingredients:

  • 100g of unsalted butter
  • 50g of granulated sugar
  • 50g of brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp of vanilla extract
  • 150g of all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp of baking soda
  • 100g of chocolate chips
  • 1/4 tsp of salt

Kitchen Tools Needed:

  • Mixing bowl
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Whisk
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Instructions:

  • In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat until it turns golden brown and starts to smell nutty. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the granulated sugar, brown sugar, and brown butter. Mix well until smooth.
  • Add the egg and vanilla extract to the mixture, and whisk until combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Stir in the chocolate chips.
  • Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Scoop tablespoon-sized balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden brown. The centers might look slightly underbaked – that’s okay!
  • Remove from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
