Ingredients:

  • 250g of all-purpose flour
  • 100g of granulated sugar
  • 115g of unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 large egg
  • 5g of vanilla extract
  • 2g of baking powder
  • 1g of salt
  • 200g of powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of milk (for royal icing)
  • Coloring (optional)

Instructions:

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  • In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter mixture and mix well until combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until a dough forms.
  • Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes.
  • Once chilled, roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 0.5 cm thick.
  • Use cookie cutters to cut out desired shapes and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  • Let the cookies cool completely before icing them.
  • To make the royal icing, mix the powdered sugar with the milk until smooth. Add food coloring if desired.
  • Use piping bags to decorate the cooled cookies with royal icing as desired.
